Creating fantasy stories!

Year 5 created a variety of exciting fantasy stories for their special write. Children chose their own character and created a portal where the character went to an unusual fantasy setting. During Art, children designed their own front cover and blurb and then in ICT children typed out their story. Some children were also chosen to read their stories to Year 1 for story time. Alex is Children Champion Finalist!

Before half term, one of our Primary Leaders was put forward as a candidate for ‘Rochdale Children Champion. Alex Kellyevans from Year 5 was short listed and attended an interview at Rochdale Town Hall. She had to conduct a 5 minute presentation on changes she would make within Rochdale to support the lives of children and young people. Mexico!

To celebrate all their hard work and to show all they have learnt in Linked Learning this half term, Class 6 had a Mexico party. We listened to traditional Mexican music, had a go at smashing a piñata and tried some yummy Mexican food. We enjoyed the salsa and tortilla chips but some weren’t so sure on the guacamole!

Year 1’s visit to the Year 5 rainforest

This week, Year 1 came to explore the Year 5 rainforest! Class 11 used their sketching skills to draw their chosen rainforest animal and then used oil pastels to create vibrant colours. They then used these sketches to create abstract artwork with felt tips. Year 1 join the animal abstract work and also coloured in some rainforest animals. Making Boats: Final Products

After several weeks of investigation and testing, Class 9 made their final boats this week. Using the knowledge gained in previous tests, they designed a final product that they thought would meet the design brief: A Viking longboat that would float and be powered by wind.
