Today we had our first session of Computing Club. Seventeen children attended and, helped by the Digital Leaders, explored a variety of coding apps.

Our new topic is balanced arguments and today we took the roles of for, against and a even had ajudge. We used our persuasive vocabulary and strong sentence openers to put forward our arguments. Class 12 did a great job of verbalising their opinions and stating reasons why. Questions included: should children be allowed to go on any video games? Should summer holidays be cut down to 2 weeks? Should all schools have a sports field?
In Nursery we have been observing a little caterpillar munching on leaves. We have been discussing the life cycle of a caterpillar and using key vocabulary such as cocoon, spin, flutter, butterfly etc.
Year 5 created a variety of exciting fantasy stories for their special write. Children chose their own character and created a portal where the character went to an unusual fantasy setting. During Art, children designed their own front cover and blurb and then in ICT children typed out their story. Some children were also chosen to read their stories to Year 1 for story time. Class 13 have been making circuits to light a bulb. They had to investigate the difference between a series circuit and a parallel circuit.
Before half term, one of our Primary Leaders was put forward as a candidate for ‘Rochdale Children Champion. Alex Kellyevans from Year 5 was short listed and attended an interview at Rochdale Town Hall. She had to conduct a 5 minute presentation on changes she would make within Rochdale to support the lives of children and young people. To celebrate all their hard work and to show all they have learnt in Linked Learning this half term, Class 6 had a Mexico party. We listened to traditional Mexican music, had a go at smashing a piñata and tried some yummy Mexican food. We enjoyed the salsa and tortilla chips but some weren’t so sure on the guacamole!
Class 6 had their class assembly this morning. A big thank you to all our family and friends who came to watch the children were so happy with the turnout!
This afternoon we have had special visitors in class 3, they came in to share their stories. We really enjoyed listening to their adventures.
