Good morning Year 6. We hope you are well and ready for another week of learning.

The tasks set in your home learning packs are as follows:

English

  • Read your reading book or a book of your choice for at least 15 minutes today. Remember reading is not only educational but a way of relaxing! If you’d like any recommendations of what to read, comment below or ask an adult to email your class teacher.
  • We have set a Spelling and Grammar task today to complete using the Active and Passive worksheet in your home learning pack.
We have learnt about active and passive voice this year already.
    Remember:
Sentences can use either the active voice or the passive voice. We usually use the active voice, which means the subject of the sentence is doing the action.
E.g. The boy kicked the ball.

In this sentence, the boy is the subject and he is doing the action of kicking.
In passive voice, the action is done to the subject.
E.g. The ball was kicked by the boy.
In this sentence, kicking is the action and it is being done to the ball, which is now the subject.

How to Remember Active and Passive Voice | Active, passive voice ...
  • Spelling practise – complete the ‘warm up’ section on the ‘French Words in English’ spelling worksheet from your home learning packs. This week, we are learning about words and spelling rules we have in English that we use that are derived from French. Do you know any already?

Maths

  • Power Maths textbook C pages 60 – 62. ‘Problem solving – fractions’. Today you will use your fractions knowledge to solve fraction-based problems. Remember techniques you have all been confident using when completing your weekly arithmetic tests this year will help you solve these problems. Don’t be put off because it is in word problem form. The strategies are the same but first, you must  work out what calculation is required.
If you need any help to remember strategies, BBC Bitesize has a range of videos explaining each strategy. Click here to see

RE

We will be learning about some of the ‘great thinkers’ from history this week and what their thoughts on religion and morals were.

  • Today, complete the comprehension about Socrates from your home learning pack. Socrates is a very famous Greek philosopher who has had a huge impact on Modern thoughts and philosophy.

As always, if you need any help or advice with today’s learning, please get in touch. Either leave a message below or ask an adult to email your class teacher.
