This week in Maths Class 5 are exploring equal groups as part of our multiplication and division learning journey. Today we moved on to making equal groups. We used a range of concrete apparatus to represent the described groups. Next we will be thinking about how to count them!
In Class 5 we have been learning how to mix colours using the powder paints. We discovered that from using the three primary colours red, blue and yellow, we could also make green, orange and purple. We have shown what we have learned by creating these vibrant colour wheels!
In our design and technology lessons, Class 5 have been busy creating moving pictures. We used a simple sliding mechanism to make our superheroes fly across the city. We are very proud of our final pictures which we have displayed for everyone to see!
To conclude our science learning about materials, Class 5 carried out a waterproof investigation. We wanted to find out which material would be best to make Traction Man a new diving suit. After testing a variety of materials we concluded a plastic suit would be best. We hope he likes Read more…
In Class 5 we have been learning how to add two 2-digit numbers. We have been using the dienes equipment to help us with our understanding of combining tens and ones and have learned how to record our calculations using the column method.
Class 5 were lucky enough to visit the Tim Peake descent VR bus on Thursday. The children were able to see what the descent back to earth was like, launch rockets and explore the inside of a space shuttle. All the children really enjoyed their session!
As part of our science learning journey about materials, Class 5 have been investigating which materials we can change the shape of. We tested a range of materials such as wood, rubber, plasticine and stone to see if we could twist, squash, bend or stretch them.

As part of our Linked Learning theme Class 5 have been thinking about how safe our local area is. Today we went outside to find out if our school is on a busy road. We observed different vehicles on the road and kept a tally chart of those we saw. Read more…
Today Class 5 have been exploring the Geography of our town. We looked at a range of photographs of Heywood including some aerial photographs. We enjoyed finding the features we know and visit. Later we learned how to sort them into human and physical features.
