History Lesson 1- link needed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctSWBvyzSIs

This term our history topic will be looking at seaside holidays from the past. Start off by having a discussion with your child about what they already know about the seaside. Have they been to the seaside before? In the UK, abroad or both? What do they remember doing there? Can they remember what they wore to the seaside and what things they brought with them? i.e blanket, bucket and spade or sun cream. Watch the short video clip from Blackpool in 1900 (120 years ago!) discuss with your child what immediate differences they notice about then and now. What are people wearing, can they see anyone in a t-shirt or swimming shorts? What about any cars on the road- how do they think people got around Blackpool back then?

Children to complete Lesson 1 worksheet. Compare the two photos and think about the differences between the two. What is similar and what is different? Children can write one full sentence or key words. Think about what activities they are doing on the beach and what people are wearing.
