Year 5 walked down to the Memorial in Heywood today to pay our respects for Remembrance Day. We made poppies with messages on to send our wishes to the soldiers and their families. Children were surprised to see some of their last names on the memorial and wondered if these soldiers were related to them. We then had the opportunity to explore real WWII artefacts from the touchstones museum in Rochdale. This included gas masks, helmets, rationing books and warning rattles which gave us an insight into life during the war.

I would hate it if I was a child all the way back then especially wearing the gas masks!
