In-depth character study.

We’re reading The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne.

We read about the main character’s sister and were presented with the statement, ‘Gretel is an unpleasant character’.

We know that humans are complex and the best authors make sure their characters are not 1 dimensional and so we delved deep into the text to find evidence to either support or argue against the statement.

We had mature, well structured conversations and really considered how the author uses language to create meaning and affect the reader.
