This half term, we have been looking at eating and the digestive system.

Today we conducted an investigation to see if acid breaks down all foods in the same way. We took 5 different foods and mimiced part of the digestion process. First we put our foods into a bowl (the mouth) and added water (saliva). We then mashed up the contents using a fork (teeth). After that, we poured the chewed up food into a plastic bag (stomach) filled with some acid (vinegar). Then we gently squeezed the bag because our stomach contracts to break down the food.

We are going to wait 24 hours (that’s how long it usually takes to digest food) and then we are going to complete observations of how the acid has changed each food.
