Good morning Year 5! We hope you had an enjoyable Easter. How did everyone keep busy? Do you hunt for any Easter eggs?

Here is a reminder of today’s work for Monday 20th April 2020

Maths
We have now moved onto a new section of power Maths and you have been given a 5C text book to complete your work in. This week you will be adding and subtracting decimals. ‘Lesson one: adding and Subtracting Decimals’ starts on page 6 of your practice book. Don’t forget to use the ‘discover’ guidance in your packs (the page you need is: Unit 12, lesson 1).

English
This week we have set a different comprehension each day, we have selected a range of diction and non-fiction texts and ones you will hopefully find an interesting read. Today’s text is about henry 8th. Read the text and answer the questions. If you could like to find out more, why not research Henry 8th and his wives and put together a timeline of his life!

Reading
Continue to read your copy of The Phantom Tollbooth. If you do not have a copy of the book at home, follow the link below to an online version which will be much easier to continue to read!

Spelling Practice
Have a look at this week’s spellings. Start practising by writing each word in a different colour.

RE
This term we have been learning all about Places of worship, specifically a Church, Mosque, Mandir and Synagogue. Your task this week is to create a documentary telling people all about different places of worship, the main features and their significance and examples of different ones around the world. This could be a video documentary, a PowerPoint or a written script. Use the following websites to revise what you already know.

Other Ideas

Do you have any cotton buds at home? Create some aboriginal style paintings by doing small coloured dots to create a picture. If you have any rocks you could paint them too!

We would really like to hear from you to see how you’re getting on with the work but more importantly to know you’re all ok. Please comment below

Parents or carers can get in touch by email if they like too – to speak to Mr Stamp it’s class11@harwoodpark.rochdale.sch.uk or to Miss Bishop it’s class12@harwoodpark.rochdale.sch.uk

Keep well,
Miss Bishop & Mr Stamp
