Good Morning Year 5!
Here are today’s work tasks for you…

Maths
‘Adding and Subtracting Decimals 8’ lesson from your Power Maths pages. Don’t forget to use the ‘discover’ guidance in your packs.

English
This week we have prepared some spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG) activities. Please complete ‘SPAG Mat 3’ today. How have you found these so far? There will be more to come so do let me or Miss Bishop know if anything doesn’t make sense!

Reading
Read a book or a magazine that interests you – and please do let us know any books that you can recommend.

Spelling Practice

Current Affairs
In your learning packs I printed out a full Covid-19 Time Capsule. This would be a nice way to document how you are feeling, what you are doing, who you are with etc. so that in the future you can look back on this time and remember how you were feeling. Remember to try and stay positive: we all hope to be back to normal soon.

Computing
Here are the answers to yesterday…
1. What did you think? What did you like about Play Like Share?
2. What different things do Sam, Ellie and Alfie do online? Make videos, talk to people, learn to sing, share songs.
3. What problem did Alfie face at the beginning of the cartoon? Another gamer got in touch with Alfie to ask him to play – but Alfie had to say no because of school.
4. How did the gamer make Alfie feel? Alfie was fine at first but then began to feel threatened by the other gamer.
5. What did Alfie do when he realised something wasn’t right? He stopped replying, told his mother, blocked the other gamer and he and his mother reported him.
6. What happened when Selfie’s video was made public? How did it make them feel? People they did not know made unkind comments.

Here is a new activity for today:
Activity 2: Alfie’s videos
• Watch Episode 1: Block Him Right Good, Alfie with your child here.
• Discuss the steps that you can take to ensure that you are safe online.
Tomorrow I will post some ideas for steps that you can take to ensure you are safe – in the meantime maybe share some by commenting on this blog post?

Finally, we would really like to hear from you to see how you’re getting on with he work but more importantly to know you’re all ok. Please comment below. Parents and carers can continue to contact us by email (class11@harwoodpark.rochdale.sch.uk or class12@harwoodpark.rochdale.sch.uk) – thank you to all those parents who have been in touch.

Keep well,
Mr Stamp & Miss Bishop
