Happy Easter Year 3,
We will not be setting daily home learning over the Easter break as you deserve a well-deserved break. However please see below for a project, similar to a pre-learning task, to keep you busy. We have also included some extra Easter/Spring activities too.
Create your own Roman mosaic art
Our next History topic is ‘The Romans’. The Roman era is the historical period after the Iron Age.
A mosaic is an artistic picture or design made out of any materials assembled together. Mosaic are used as decoration. The floors of Roman buildings were often richly decorated with mosaics – tiny coloured stones (tesserae). Many mosaics captured scenes of history and everyday Roman life and mosaic floors were a statement of wealth and importance. Rich Romans decorated the floors of their main rooms with mosaics. These were stuck to the floor with mortar, a type of cement. Each mosaic used thousands of pieces to make a pattern.
We would like you to research and create your own Roman mosaic using every day materials found in your house. You could use old magazines/newspapers, wrapping paper, old gift bags, recycling or anything else suitable you have around your house OR if you have paint, you could use a cotton bud and paint instead. Please see below for ideas – you can keep it simple or make it a bit more complicated:
