Home Learning Pack – Year 1

Reading:

Children should be reading every day. We have included 3 reading books for children to read at home. We would also encourage children to be reading as much as possible. They could also read their own story books that they have at home.

Phonics:

Maths:

Children will receive one piece of maths work to be completed per day. This will be in line with regular maths lessons that we would carry out in school. Children may need concepts explaining to them. We would encourage parents to help where necessary but try and let the children complete independently if possible.

Maths Fluency:

As part of this we would encourage children to practise their number bonds to 10 and 20 each day. As well as counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button is also a good website to practise number bonds and addition/subtraction within 20.

English:

Children will receive one piece of English work to be completed per day. When writing, please encourage children to be spelling words using their phonic knowledge (telling children to use their ‘fred fingers’ will help them). Please also encourage children to use ‘Super 6’ when writing (full stops, capital letters, pre-cursive writing, writing on the line, phonetic spelling, and finger spaces)

Spellings:

Spellings to be practised every day. Children should learn and practise spelling the 100 high frequency words included in this pack.

History Project:

In History this term we have been looking at timelines and significant events that have happened in our lifetime e.g. Prince Harry & Meghan marry and Tim Peake’s space mission. We would like the children to design and make their own timeline from the year they were born until 2020 about significant events that have happened in the world and to themselves. Children may wish to include events such as starting school or a brother/sister being born. This can be done in any way they wish.

Geography project:

In Geography this term we have been looking at Africa and the UK. We would like to ask the children to create a poster or information leaflet about Africa and the UK, including facts and human and physical features. Children should make this as creatively as possible.

ICT:

Please find included your child’s Purple Mash login. Children can access educational games and they will be familiar with using this from our ICT lessons.

Science:

Please see included science pack with resources about our current topic- Animals and Humans.
