In History, we had a debate! We looked at the statement, “The Stone Age man was just a simple hunter gatherer only interested in food” and split into a proposition team (for) and an opposition team (against). We had to argue our point that the statement was either true or false using our prior knowledge about the Stone Age.

Here are some of the points we came up with:

Proposition Opposition
  • Stone Age people’s biggest focus was food. They did everything relying on their need for food.
  • Stone Age people needed food to be big and strong to survive as work was very hard and the weather could be very cold.
  • Stone Age people needed food in order to be strong enough to kill more animals.
  • Stone Age people made all of their weapons with a focus on killing animals.
  • Stone Age people only made fires to cook food to eat.
  • Stone Age people only made houses to store food so it was safe.
  • Stone Age people used to keep dead people in caves to lure animals to kill.
  • Stone Age people began to keep dogs as domestic animals to help them hunt and gather food.
  • Stone Age people were very talented and creative.
  • Stone Age people made jewellery to look nice during the Neolithic era.
  • Stone Age people made weapons like axes to chop wood and bow and arrows to kill animals.
  • Stone Age people could make fires using stones and wood.
  • Stone Age people did not just kill animals to eat them – they used their skin for clothes and their bones for weapons and jewellery.
  • Stone Age people made pottery using clay.
  • Stone Age people worked hard and were strong. They managed to create Skara Brae and Stonehenge using only manpower.
  • Stone Age people drew cave drawing in order to communicate.
