Class 9 were yesterday given a topical mystery to solve: who is the football kit saboteur? In order to solve this mystery, the children were paired up as detectives and given a set of mathematical clues alongside a list of suspects.

The children measured the perimeter of different shapes to the nearest cm, and matched their results against a table of clues. They then had to fill in the missing numbers in subtraction sums, using the formal written method and using the inverse operation to check all answers. The next task was to convert different units of time in order to chronologically place the events of a day. Finally, Class 9 had to use their knowledge of multiples to narrow their list of suspects down.
