This week is National Maths Week and today we thought about how we apply our maths skills outside school. THe list of things we came up with included:

  • shopping
  • cooking/baking
  • telling the time – knowing what time the bus is coming, what time you need to leave for school, when your favourite TV program is on
  • using computers
  • eating out
  • building/gardening/DIY

We then put some of our skills into practice at Class 9’s Breakfast Bar. We each had a budget of £5 to spend on breakfast and had to choose what we wanted off the menu. We then counted out the money in coins, worked out each table’s total, ordered the table bills from largest to smallest and then split the bill equally between each person on our table.

After we’d done all that, we were finally allowed to eat!
