In history this term we are learning all about The Great fire of London.  So far we have looked at when and where the Great Fire of London started, compared old and modern London and sequenced the events using a story map. This week we have been focusing on why the fire spread so quickly and stayed alight for so long by exploring what the houses were made of.  We created our very own models to show what houses in London were like before and after the Great fire of London. We talked about how houses in 1666 were made from wood with thatched roofs which were extremely flammable, where as modern houses are made from bricks and slate. In 1666 houses were also built very close together in narrow streets, therefore the fire was able to spread much more quickly. We also discussed the firefighting techniques and the climate during 1666 and how these affected the fire.
