In Maths this week, we have been learning about area. Area is defined as:

the amount of space a 2d shape takes up.

We have all been finding the area of rectilinear shapes by counting the squares inside it and some of us have been using multiplication to ding the answer as well (length x width). We have also been exploring the different shapes that can be made with the same area. We did this by arranging post-it notes and then moving one at a time to see what different arrangements we could come up with. We then drew these shapes into our books to record them.

One of the things we had to make sure of was that all our shapes were unique – that we hadn’t created rotations or reflections of shapes we had already discovered. This was quite tricky and required a bit of perseverance but we got there in the end!
