Hi Class 9!

Firstly, well done on completing your first two weeks of home learning.

Secondly, over the Easter Holidays, we will not be setting daily tasks as we have been doing because, well, it’s the holidays and we think you deserve a break. We are, however, setting you one holiday project to complete over the two weeks and will also be giving you some optional Easter-themed activities to help you keep busy.

Geography Project – Biomes

biome is a large region of Earth that has a certain climate and certain types of living things. The temperature, soil and the amount of water and light shape what life exists in a biome. The plants and animals that live in each biome are specially adapted to that area – this means they have traits and characteristics that help them to survive in their particular biome.

Your job over Eater is to research the main five biomes (deserts, aquatic, forests, grasslands, and tundra), Find out what the climate is like, what plants and animals live there and how they are adapted to survive.

You can present your work as a piece of informational writing with sub-headings, text pictures & captions (either hand-written or typed on the computer), as a poster, model or PowerPoint. Be creative! You could even make a video if you are feeling up to a challenge!

You may find these websites helpful in your research:

Remember to ask your parents to submit your work by e-mail when it’s completed (photos are fine if it’s not electronic) to class9@harwoodpark.rochdale.sch.uk

Other activities to keep you busy:
  • Keep a diary reflecting on life over the last few weeks. Everyone’s lives have changed dramatically across the world, schools and shops have closed, people are at home, families are spending lots of time together. It has had a big impact on everyday life. You could write about what you have been doing, how you feel, things you have learnt and what you are looking forward to once life starts to go back to normal. This could be kept or hidden to be re-read in years to come! Teachers will be teaching about this time in History classes across the world in future – maybe they’ll use your diary to help!
  • Decorate some eggs – remember to hard boil them first! Here are some ideas but there are plenty more online if you’re struggling:
  • Do some Easter baking – the BBC Good Food guide has some ideas for simple Easter recipes for kids
  • Make an Easter bonnet
  • Make some Easter cards. There are some simple ideas on this website.
    • Maybe you could post them to your friends and family to cheer them up or push them through their doors when you’re out for your daily exercise. Don’t knock though – remember we need to keep social distancing.
  • Write an acrostic poem about Easter. Can you make your poem rhyme, use interesting vocabulary or figurative language.
  • If you’ve got younger siblings, why not create an Easter Egg Hunt for them?
  • Watch these 3 videos of retelling the Easter Story and then complete the comic strip (scroll down):

  • Complete this Maths Challenge – The Mystery of the Easter Bunny Costume

Have a great Easter – feel free to comment to keep in touch and don’t eat too much chocolate!
